Page rank ranges from 1 to a maximum of 10.
If you have a relatively new site it is not uncommon or a bad thing to have a page rank of zero.
Page rank is often abbreviated as PR.
Google works out your page rank by examining the inlinks or backlinks coming into your site. These are other web pages that link to your site.
When a website links to your site they pass part of their page rank on to your page. So really page rank is rather link a democracy. The more links you have the better your page rank.
Often webmasters that may link to your site may use a special tag that prevents page rank passing your site. This tag is known as the NOFOLLOW tag.
There are many reasons why a webmaster my use the NOFOLLOW tag. Although you cannot control links coming into your site, you can control who you link out to. What you want to control is links going out of your site to websites form bad neighbourhoods.
Remember this: Page Rank is only one amongst many variables that are used to decipher where you are paced in the Google search engine. My advice is write original quality articles, speak with other webmasters over the phone or in person when tying for backlinks , use Google Analyitics and their excellent Webmaster tools and finally explore how you can use social networking to rave about your site. |
